GreenRoots stands firmly against the wave of recent executive orders issued by President Trump, which threaten our core values and the well-being of our communities. These executive orders include threats to birthright citizenship, withdrawal from international climate agreements and the World Health Organization, revoking regulations that promote clean energy and keep fossil fuels in the ground, removal of environmental protections, increasing funding for inhumane immigration enforcement, dismantling protections for transgender individuals, as well as federal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs and more.
While these executive orders represent very real threats to our communities, it’s important to remember that their purpose is to instill fear and panic in our communities and send community defenders into a resource-draining series of responses and crisis management. We must not let this administration take our energy, joy, and determination. We must not let fear take hold so deeply that we lose our ability or willingness to resist.
We are committed to continuing our fight for Environmental Justice (EJ). We will not allow these executive orders to hinder the progress we’ve fought for over the past 30 years. To stop now would be to erase decades of hard-won victories and condemn our communities to even greater harm, leading to egregious proposals, more fossil fuel infrastructures like power plants, and more toxic hazards like asbestos piles in EJ communities. We must keep pushing forward. We cannot and will not allow these destructive plans to undo the years we’ve all dedicated to advancing a better quality of life.
GreenRoots will not be intimidated. We will not back down. Our communities have faced threats to our safety before. We know how to come together and protect our people.
