Dear Friends,

Like many of you, we took yesterday to process our thoughts and feelings about the election results. We opted not to make any statements or proclamations immediately but rather to let our community know that GreenRoots is in it for the long haul. We will continue to fight for what we believe in and for our shared values, we will continue to uplift everyone in our communities, especially those most marginalized and oppressed and we will move forward with love, not hate.

In Chelsea and East Boston, two frontline, immigrant-majority communities that face unprecedented climate and environmental injustice threats, we know that the work ahead just got even more difficult.

The Trump Administration has vowed to carry out a mass deportation, to eliminate environmental standards, to promote fossil fuel use, and to discredit science-based facts. What this looks like on the ground in Chelsea and East Boston, is that our friends, neighbors, and small business owners could be deported to countries they’ve never known or haven’t lived in for decades; businesses will be able to pollute with carte blanche; our air will become more unhealthy; our neighborhoods will get hotter; the climate impacts will be more profound; and our public health will worsen. The future feels bleak.

Chelsea and East Boston are resilient, powerful communities. We have risen from the ashes before, and we will continue to do so. GreenRoots is a resident-led, majority-minority, multilingual, LGBTQ+ inclusive organization that is committed to:

  • Organizing and empowering our fellow residents;
  • Protesting, fighting, and stopping efforts that will hurt our communities, our neighborhoods, and our environment.
  • Linking arms with other local and regional organizations and allied partners to protect our fellow residents, neighborhoods and communities.
  • Continuing to implement innovative campaigns and projects to build the power of our community, address health disparities and fight against climate and environmental assaults.
  • Leading with love and always valuing every human.

Our partners at Chelsea Black Community are holding a Decompression Session at their office this evening at 7pm for anyone wanting to be in community to process the results of the election. We invite you to join!
